Fashion Memoirs of a Pioneer Woman

TBD Heritage Square Hall 731 South A Street, 93030

Annette Petit Laurent was the first of her family to come to California with her pioneer husband Martin.    Today, the house they built still stands in downtown Oxnard’s Heritage Square.   Annette shares both personal and historic stories and memories of her life as an early settler from France to Pennsylvania and finally Ventura County through fashions of the day, from the 1850’s through 1913.   A powerpoint presentation displays outfits that Annette might have worn at milestone events in her lifetime and important events in local and national history. This presentation can be a live model fashion show or a one woman presentation with vintage costumes on display.

Speaker Series: "The Port of Hueneme: A Father Son Legacy"

5:30PM 731 South A Street, Heritage Hall

Connie Korenstein presents: "The Port of Hueneme: A Father and Son Legacy": This presentation tells the story of the Port of Hueneme and Ventura County, beginning with the early pioneer Thomas Bard, who later became the first US Senator from the county. The story includes events in US, California and the World, as they affected the development of our local community. Central to this story are two men, a father and son, whose dreams for a thriving port in the sleepy little town of Hueneme were realized, despite opposition, controversy and World War.  Finally we look at the Port of Hueneme today and reflect on how it serves the community now as compared to its beginnings in 1872. FREE for members, $5 for non-members. 731 South A Street, Oxnard, CA 93030, in the Heritage Hall.

RESERVATIONS REQUIRED. Call 805.483.7960 to reserve your seat
